Goo Gob
20 graham crackers - ground
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1/4 cup oleo
Blend together and pack in bottom of sq. pan.
8 oz. cream cheese
1/2 c. powdered sugar
1 c. whipped cream
Blend together. Place on top of crust.
Top with pie filling. Refrigerate until firm.
My assumption is that this is really called no-bake cheesecake, but in our family it has been called Goo-Gob. The story grandma told was that she had made this for a meal and had it sitting on the table. Phil, my cousin, who was fairly young at the time came into the room, he remarked "what a bunch of goo-gob" it was and the name stuck.
This was a recipe she made often. Usually for Sabbath dinners or special occasions. As far as I can remember, it was always made with cherry pie filling over the top.
It is an easy recipe, requiring no baking. The only cooking skill is measuring and I am quite sure it does not require exact measurements to be good. This recipe can be easily adapted too. Replacement of higher fat items with low fat or sugar free ingredients still equals a good tasting dessert. It seems to be best if it can set overnight or equal amount of time, in my opinion anyway.
I'm anxious to hear what you remember about this particular dessert.
