Roast

5 eggs
1 onion, chopped
2 tbls. oil
4 T. margarine
1 tsp. Savorex dissolved in 1 cup boiling water
1/8 tsp. garlic salt
1/4 tsp. poultry seasoning
4 T. Crisco
1/4 lb cheese, grated
6 slices whole wheat bread
1 can burger (14 oz)

Saute onion in oil. Break bread in small pieces and brown in margarine and Crisco. Mix everything and put in leaf tin. Back at 325 F. only until good and bubbly. Serve with gravy or cranberry sauce.

It is hard to know what order to do the recipes in, so I have chosen no order. I think I will randomly pull a card out of the box and see where that takes me. This particular card is a vegetarian recipe although one might substitute hamburger for the can of burger if they choose. I notice right off that the recipe has yellowed and has many spots on it from having it out while cooking. I am making the assumption that grease has splattered onto the card as well as the Savorex.

The recipe is typed and indicates to back for 1 to 1 1/2 hours. The time is crossed out heartily and replaced with hand written words "only until good n bubbly". I have had this roast although not as often as others she made. In the days on non-stick pans, I don't think one needs the oil recommended for sauteing. Personally, I use a little bit of water to saute or maybe a tad of non-stick spray if I am using a standard pan. I think the Criso might be an optional item too, or at least using a smaller amount would be advisable. And, one last note, I think it should be loaf tin instead of leaf tin.

  1. She didn't have a spell checkers when she typed and who was going to type it all over when she really knew what it meant anyway.

  2. I think you posted this because it says to serve with cranberry sauce.
