Bread

Raise yeast with 1 teaspoon of sugar in warm water.
1 small to medium potato (boil in one quart of water, then push potato through a sieve).

Mix 2 cups sifted brown flour, 1/3 cup of honey or brown sugar and 5 small hand fulls of salt. Use the potato water to melt 2 good size blobs of Crisco then add enough cold water to make a quart and to cool it down so it doesn't kill the yeast. Add the water and raised yeast to the dry ingredients. I like to use the mixer. Mix those ingredients up thoroughly then add either white or brown flour to it until you can touch it and it doesn't stick to you. I usually add a little more just to be sure, then knead it for about 5 to 15 minutes-depending on how much strength you have. Put in a warm oven and let it raise for 1 hour. Knead again, raise again 1 hour, knead it, put it into pans, raise 1 hour, bake at 350 for 45 minutes

This recipe indicates it is from Janie. Warm fresh bread is always good! This one looks like it would be nice and light too.

  2. ok ~ I had to go find my recipe.
I think that recipe must be for potato rolls as my bread recipe only calls for 3 Tbsp of butter.
