Coffee Cake

Combine:
1 c sugar
1/2 c liquid shortening
1 Egg

Add:
2 c flour
1/2 t salt
1 t cinnamon
1 t nutmeg
2 t baking powder
1 t soda
1 c buttermilk

Mix until smooth. Place in 9 x 13 inch pan.

Topping, combine and sprinkle over top of cake:
1/2 c sugar
1 t cinnamon
1 t nutmeg

Pour 1/2 c liquid shortening around sides and over top of cake. Bake at 325 for 20 to 30 minutes. Cut & serve.


This recipe is recorded in Grandma's handwriting on a piece of notebook paper. Patty's name is at the top, so it appears that this was a recipe that she shared with Grandma. I love coffee cake. As a youngster, I was hesitant to try coffee cake for some reason. Once I tasted it, I was hooked though.
