Tropical Fruit Cooler

2 cups boiling water
2 to 3 oz packages jello (red)
5 cups cold water
1 1/2 cups lime juice (or lemon juice)
2 cups pineapple juice
5 cups orange juice
1 cup sugar
2 lbs bananas whipped
3 cups strawberries (fresh or frozen)
1 qt ginger ale chilled (optional)

Add hot water to jello and stir until dissolved. Add cold water, fruit juices, sugar and stir well. Whip bananas w/mixer or blender until smooth and creamy just before serving (reserving some for sliced garnish). Add bananas, strawberries and ginger ale. Pour into punch bowl over ice. Garnish with sliced bananas. Yields about 50 4 ounce services (6 1/4 quarts).

Inside Grandma's recipe box the instructions are written on various types of cards, pieces of magazines, packaging labels and other items. It is clear that they came from many sources and over many years. This recipe is written on the back of a piece of computer programming paper in my Aunt Mary's handwriting. Mary says that she has the other half of the same paper with the same recipe written on it, and the notation 'Cindy's wedding'. These clues let us know that this recipe was collected in October 1983.

This looks really yummy! I will definitely try this one the next time I need to make punch for something.

  1. My version of this recipe was (no hot water or jello) freeze into cubes - pour chilled gingerale over cube in individual cup and serve with a cherry and swizzle stick!

  2. That was one of my programming sheets! No wonder I could never finish that program, Mom ripped up one of the sheets!
