Dill Pickles

1 gal distilled water with 1 cup pickling salt


in bottom of jar:  Sprig of dill, 2 cloves garlic


Put pickles in jar.  Keep below neck
Pour brine over the pickles
Cover
Ready in 2 weeks.

OK.  I couldn't make pickles with this recipe, but I'm sure others could.  I think she must have just written out the high points since she knew how to make pickles otherwise.   This recipe has Nida's name on it.  So if you have had Nida's dill pickles, then you now have the secret recipe.  (wink)

  2. Is the brine the distilled water and salt? I know Nida, but she isn't with us anymore to share the rest of the 'secret', I'll have to ask my mom, she used to make pickles.

  3. I have the same recipe in my recipe file with Nida's name on it. Yes the distilled water & salt mixed together is the brine. I do not remember that they were all that great.
